Abstract: Working Conditions in a Marketised University System: Generation Precarity examines the prevalence and character of insecure employment in UK higher education, mapping shared experiences and strategies for resistance. Bringing together testimonial data that spans a tumultuous time in UK higher education and politics, this book evidences how precarious labour conditions have persisted, shifted and in many respects intensified during this period. The book examines the conditions that characterise this vulnerable section of the workforce in UK higher education, and what steps can be taken to address this unstable, yet persistent, labour pattern. As noted in the title of the book, what emerges from current research and activism is a generation of scholars and teachers whose working lives are defined by precarity.
