Abstract: • Early detection by mammography improves the overall management, treatment and prognosis of a breast cancer (Lee & Elmore, 2014). • Maltese attendance rate for first screening invitation was 60%, thus, lower than the European target rate of 70% (Marmarà, Marmarà, & Hubbard, 2018). • ‘Fear’ was found to be the key reason for non-attendance to first invitation (Marmarà, Marmarà, & Hubbard, 2017) • The nature of the exam is known to induce anxiety in the woman undertaking it, contributing to the low attendance rates (Alessandra, 2000) • Anticipation of undergoing an unknown procedure may enhance the anxiety levels (Ladd & Gabrieli, 2015).
