Abstract: What is an Impact Assessment? Is Malta prepared to initiate such studies. This chapter investigates the process whereby the potential impacts of a new ‘development’ are predicted and evaluated via the use of data gathering, analysis and stakeholder consultation culminating in the development of mitigation strategies. Built around Social Cohesion and Social Capital principles, these related activities contribute to a systematic 'futures-oriented' approach to crime and its prevention, community safety and crimeproofing of designs, whether the timescale is next year or next decade.
