Abstract: This paper investigates the NSDI prior lacunae in technology, reviews the legal imperatives and outlines the lessons learnt. These include trends & considerations, integration of existing data 2D and 3D, vector, raster data (Copernicus, UAV, aerial), and other models. It also investigates the alignment of information with geodetic systems, the alignment of thematic layers to a common reference system, the use of geo-standards (e.g. INSPIRE, OGC, ISO), the legal framework and infrastructure. The process studies best practice in EU NSDIs and the lessons learnt.
