Abstract: This dissertation will focus on the use of open-source intelligence (OSINT) in preventing financial crime. The concept of OSINT will be explored from its roots up to its current use in the fields of financial crime prevention and compliance. Moreover, this dissertation will delve into the unique advantages that OSINT offers a way in preventing financial crime. Such advantages include: its cost-effectiveness; real-time information; vast information; and ease of use. Furthermore, this dissertation will also make use of the first-hand account of professionals through primary data collection. Finally, this dissertation will advocate the importance of the concept of its use within financial crime prevention strategies currently being utilised by various public and private institutions within Malta.
