Abstract: The objective of this paper is to provide a review of the various areas in which augmented reality is being exploited. Throughout the introduction, this paper defines augmented reality as a new interactive medium which merges the digital world with the real world. In addition this paper also outlines how the advantages which this medium presents with respect to digital and physical media. In line with its scope, the paper reviews the various areas in which augmented reality is being applied, which include: the automotive, aviation, medical and educational sectors. Throughout the review, the paper also outlines several existing software tools which have been developed to suit specific purposes. In the conclusion, the paper outlines the limitations of this medium and provides reasons for the existing limitations.
