Citation: Knaus, L. (2023). Scriptwriting as a mode of research: a creative placement of Malta-as-a-character in a miniseries created for Netflix (Bachelor's dissertation).
Abstract: The purpose of this project-based dissertation is two-fold: the creation of a pilot script for a miniseries based in Malta at a cusp of an era, 1790-1830, and the exploration of the wy in which scriptwriters approach the writing and pitching processes, the latter with the aim to pitch to Netflix. The practice-led research is conducted by creating characters, a world, a theme, a plot and finally writing a 55-page long script. The theoretical part consists of potentially pitching the miniseries to Netflix. The project-based dissertation briefly also looks at “Malta-as-a-character”, screen-induced tourism in film and TV, and Malta as a filming location.
