Abstract: This chapter illuminates the importance of libraries in Malta. It presents the contributions made by libraries to society and the ways they are helping ensure a sustainable future that benefits everyone. It situates the significance of libraries within a framework of their contributions to community, culture, education, economy and democracy. Building upon this framework, it then outlines the crucial roles played by libraries in helping to achieve a sustainable future for all, particularly through supporting the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Finally, it shows the concrete steps taken and ways in which libraries realize the SDGs.
