Abstract: The paintings, art treasures and other artifacts left behind by the Order of St John when Napoleon pushed them out of Malta in 1798 remained untouched under the French ( unlike the churches in Malta) far they used the palace as their headquarters. But with the advent of the British, free rein was given to all sorts of pillage and vandalism.
