Abstract: This research provides an analysis of the personal and social development of members as a result of participation in a student organisations at the University of Malta focusing on self-confidence & self-esteem, forming relationships, life long learning, social skills, decision making & leadership qualities and cultural awareness. A personally administered survey research was conducted with seventy-four student members from seventeen different student organisations. This dissertation proceeds by analysing, interpreting and discussing the data obtained. Results indicate that participation in student organisations can be associated with indicators of positive development. This study also highlights the assistance of a youth worker in relation to these organisations as perceived by the same members. The study is concluded by various suggestions and recommendations based on the information gathered during the process with the prospect that these will be taken up by the relevant bodies.
