Abstract: Agostino Camilleri , popularly known as Wistin, was a renowned Gozitan painter, artist and sculptor. Born on 02 May 1885, he started making Christmas figurines to sustain his mother at the age of 17. Noticing his artistic skills, he was enrolled into the renowned Jesuit seminary in Gozo by Brother Mawel Magri. Wistin, moved to Italy to improve on his artistic skills. He studied with established artists such as Pietro Canonica, Filippo Coppa, Pizzardi, Marcini and Mastroiianni. After his return to Malta, he was apprenticed to Giuseppe Cali and Lazzaro Pisani. Wistin fathered a chain of artists who are leaving an imprint in the local and foreign artistic establishments.
