Abstract: Women have always worked in every type of society, in every part of the world, and their work and skills are as old as humankind. However, working Maltese women, especially married working women are considered a 'startlingly' new phenomenon in Maltese society. The human image evoked by the word 'worker' remains stereotypically masculine, despite the fact that Maltese women's work has always existed and extended far beyond that of a housewife and was very real indeed.
