Oration in honour of his eminence Cardinal Mario Grech

Abstract

Those of you who have known Bishop, now Cardinal, Mario Grech well, will undoubtedly know him to be a person of strong words, a radical, and someone who is attentive to detail. He distinguished himself for the fresh style of leadership he brought to the Church during a time of renewal, as well as for his promotion of civic life and justice in our islands. He left an impact with his spiritual word as a leader, a word very often gentle but sometimes rather strong, addressed to one and all - a word that hits its mark. He served Gozo as its Bishop for almost fourteen years, between 2005 and 2019, and he adopted the motto In Fractione Panis (In the Breaking of Bread). Within this context, he will be remembered for his pastoral, exhortative and distinctive tone.
