Abstract: The operational activities of the Water Services directly effect the local environment from various aspects. Half of water distributed is extracted from ground water. Water delivered to households is an essential element which has a direct effect on the every day quality of living of the local population. Water and wastewater installations are scattered allover the island. Wastewater is collected, treated and discharged back into the environment. Our road network is the path followed for laying pipes. The environment is also indirectly effected by the energy, and types and quantities of materials used by the Corporation. Thus, the long essay would analyse these elements with particular reference to the production and distribution of potable water and if/how an environmental management system would contribute to help the Corporation miminise the effect of its operations on the Environment.
