Abstract: The research will show what systems are in use and what new systems can be introduced to aid changes taking place through time. Due to innovations equipment become obsolete and it is important to find the proper compatible replacement but at the same time analyses have to be made to procure the best equipment for future benefit. Different methods of automation for different parts of systems in wastewater will be studied including also Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA). Automation with advanced electronic control equipment and communication systems can be used to collect and analyse data and for monitoring and controlling equipment or plant from a remote place twenty-four hours a day. Management will benefit by proper application of these methods to wastewater systems. Since electronic equipment is evolving rapidly design has to consider if it is better to provide basic automation without extras for future expansion and to add equipment as will be required for cost effectiveness. Data gathered aids for properly scheduling preventive maintenance rather than carrying out more expensive corrective maintenance. Also electronic data is more easily available to be used by other departments of the organisation. Automation also makes systems more efficient by reducing power consumption and making use of less manpower and organising work to personnel.
