Abstract

In July last the high rate of mortality, as indicated by the 'Mortuary Returns of the island of Malta, had so alarmingly increased, that His Excellency the Governor, desirous that its causes should be examined and information as to its nature and actual extent placed on record, was pleased to direct that a Commission should be assembled, composed of Members of the Medical Profession, to analyze and review them; and before touching upon the conclusions at which they have arrived, it may be well to describe the course of procedure which has been followed...
