This paper does not tend to detailed explanation of the legal system of marriage applied to Egyptian Muslims. However, a brief outline is given here. The legal system of marriage may be related to other issues such as divorce, rights of spouses, lineage and rights of children, which submit to the religious law. Sharia Law applies to Egyptian Muslims, while other religions or religious doctrines apply to Non-Muslims, if spouses are of the same religion. However, in the case where spouses have different religions, Sharia Law will apply as the general law in personal status matters. It should be noted that the legal system of marriage applied to Muslims in Egypt, as derived from Sharia Law, is to a great extent, similar to laws applicable in other Arab and Muslim countries, due to the fact that they have one source i.e. Sharia Law.en_GB
