| Abstract: | This dissertation analyses the contents of II Giurnal Malti, a newspaper which appeared in Malta between 1864 and 1866. It also highlights the works of contemporary writers in this newspaper. An account of the friction which existed between rival newspapers is given, namely that between II Giurnal Malti and Bertoldu, Stenterello, II Portafoglio Maltese and The Maltese Observer. The historical and cultural background will be highlighted. However, specific attention will be given to the writings from II Giurnal Malti which are of literary value and which, very sadly are not so widely known. |
