This study focuses on the revelation of the way woman is categorised in culture as "other", either as the way the "others" use her alterity, or as she herself uses her alterity. It is a contribution to the analysis of the mechanisms of the constitution and reproduction of this alterity and of all these stereotypes, aiming at their elimination in the context of the reclamation of the equal treatment of genders today. It is a fact that women are treated either as invisible or as strangers/outsiders; in other words, it is the invisibility of social relations which make them "others", something which leads to the acceptance and continuation of this situation.en_GB
