Abstract: Otosclerosis is an abnormal growth of bone near the middle ear, which can result in hearing loss. Stapedectomy is the surgical intervention required for this anomaly. The causes of sensory-neural changes in the labyrinth following stapedectomy are discussed, whereby a new technique making use of the spring prosthesis is described and its advantages outlined. The majority of cases who implemented the spring prosthesis showed remarkable improvement, and more importantly is that no sensory-neural changes in the labyrinth have been observed following its use.
