Abstract: The work of a poet is studied either as a whole or in parts, namely as a series of different moments constituting one complete creative period. When a poet is true to himself, however, there cannot be a great deal of difference between a single work and the rest, or better, between the characteristics of a particular poem and those of his whole poetic corpus. In the case of Aurel Rau, I am proposing to have a look at his poetic personality in the light of a limited number of works translated by Stefan Damian into Italian. I hope that readers of other poems by Rau, and particularly those who have followed his poetic journey since his first appearance in 1956 with Les faux sacres, will find the following points equally applicable. This would prove further the point that there must be no substantial distinction between the part and the whole, namely between a few poems and the rest.
