Abstract: The article provides an review of the Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) entitled ‘Cyber Terrorism as a New Security Threat’ that was hosted in Sofia (Bulgaria) on October 27–28, 2006 by the Center for the Law of ICT (CLICT) that organised it in co-operation with the Computer Crime Research Center (Ukraine). The ARW was sponsored by NATO through its Security through Science Programme. Thirty scientists and practitioners with legal, managerial and technological backgrounds attended the event.Specific topics explored included the interaction between Cyber-terrorism and organised crime; types of Cyber-terrorism attacks and the risks associated therewith; governments’ co-operation in combating and prevention of cyber-terrorism; security measures such as authentication and authorization; intrusion detection and integrity verification; data and system protection; risk analysis; cryptography; secure e-commerce protocols; wireless networks security; and computer forensics.
