Abstract: Otomycosis is a fungal ear infection which is more common in tropical islands and it seems that its incidence is increasing perhaps as result of widespread use of topical antibiotic preparations in the treatment of otitis externa. The fungi most frequently found in otomycosis are Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Aspergillus niger is perhaps the most common cause of otomycosis of the intact ear. The symptoms and signs of this infection are described, whereby particular focus is placed on its treatment and medication. Special emphasis is given to Tinaderm, an antifungal agent which contains tolnaftate. The importance of Tinaderm is outlined it as has proved itself to be an excellent fungicide acting as a chemical and not by peeling or exfoliation.
