Abstract: The employment rate (20-64) in 2011 showed a slight increase from 2010 for women (43.4% up 1.8 p.p.) and for men (78.8% up 1 p.p.). However, women’s employment rate in 2011 remained persistently low compared with the EU27 average (62.3%). The gender employment gap (35.4 p.p. in 2011) is high compared with the EU27 average (12.7 p.p.).
The unemployment rate (15-64) in 2011 showed a slight decrease from 2010 for women (by 0.1 p.p. down to 7.1%) and for men (by 0.7 p.p. down to 6.2%). Both figures are lower than the EU27 average of 9.8% for women and 9.7% for men.
The part-time rate for women increased to 25.7% in 2011, up 0.7 p.p. from 2010. The rate for men was 6.7%, up by 0.7 p.p.. The employment rate in full-time equivalent (FTE) in 2010 was low at 35.3% for women compared with 72.1% for men. There was a gender gap of 36.8 p.p. which compared with 18.1 p.p. for the EU 27 average in 2010. Fixed-term contracts stood at 7.9% for women and 5.7% for men in 2011. Both increased from 2010 and were well below the EU27 average (14.6% for women and 13.6% for men in 2011).
The unadjusted gender pay gap in 2010 was 6.1% and lower than the EU27 average (16.4%). The overall at-risk-of-poverty rates in 2010 for women (21.5%) and for men (19.7%) were lower than the EU 27 average (24.5% for women and 22.3% for men). The at-risk-of-poverty rates for people aged 65+ in 2010 were 21.4% for women, 1.2 p.p. lower than the EU 27 average, and 22.7% for men, 6.5 p.p. higher than the EU 27 average.
