Abstract: | Conventional statistics cannot answer questions related to the real productive roles of women in the economy, the significance of those roles, and the interaction between changing family situations and economic responsibilities (Bakker, i988:18). How many women are in involuntary non-employment or are under-employed (exploited?). thus contributing to the disguised unemployment rate in Malta? Statistics often lead to the under-reporting of women's economic contribution to the country's wealth particularly because of their involvement in the informal sector and as unpaid family workers. Familiar indicators can only tell part of the story... |
