Abstract: This dissertation delves into the artistic representations of Salomé, tracing her depiction across various media and highlighting her significance within Malta. The exploration of Salomé’s imagery has never been undertaken in Malta, making this work a unique and gratifying endeavour. My interest in Salomé stems from a personal connection as I grew up intrigued by the unusual name my mother bore; Salomé. This curiosity inspired me to delve deeper into the figure who over time has transcended her Biblical origins to become a pivotal character in the arts. Salomé's portrayal has remarkably evolved, reflecting changing cultural, religious, and artistic sensibilities. Historically, Malta seemed to overlook Salomé's significance but this research reveals the depth and richness of her representations. By analysing various artistic representations through a period of five centuries, this work seeks to understand the broader cultural and historical contexts that have shaped Salomé's enduring legacy. This study aims to foster a deeper appreciation for this captivating figure.
