Abstract: The article "When a Widow and a Police Officer Plotted a Murder" recounts the 1946 crime in Malta where Police Constable Karmenu Vella conspired with widow Kalċidonja Abdilla to murder his wife, Lela Vella. It details their subsequent trial, Abdilla's historic status as the first woman to give birth in prison, and how the story found resolution decades later when Abdilla’s daughter sought information about her mother.
