Data are presented comparing the incidence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in Maltese blood donors using three test systems: crossed immunoelectrophoresis (C.LE.P.), reverse passive haemagglutination (R.P.H.A.) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (E.L.LS.A.). It is shown that use of more sensitive tests allows a more realistic assessment of the incidence of HBsAg in Malta. Using the most sensitive system -E.L.LS.A. - an incidence of 3% is estimated. The significance of these results is discussed.en_GB
