| Abstract: | The occurrence of Xanthoria calcicola Oksner, Xanthoria aureola (Ach.) Erichsen and Xanthoria parietina (L.) Th.Fr. are confirmed for the Maltese Islands. The morphological features and ecological preferences of these lichens are described and illustrated. The lobe widths and thallus thicknesses of these three species are measured. Three other species of Xanthoria with ecological requirements that can be met locally are also described briefly. These species have so far not been recorded for the Maltese Islands. Finally an identification key for all six species of Xanthoria is included. |
