Abstract: In today’s globalized business environment with increased competition, it has become imperative for companies to do everything in their power to create and maintain their competitive advantage. ERP systems have become recognized as an important tool in maintaining this advantage. The ICT revolution and the pervading influence of web based communication has enabled ERP systems within companies to make a quantum leap in terms of its ability to help generate and maintain competitive advantage. However, the implementation of these complex, large scale systems, would not be possible without the appropriate planning, analyzing and controlling of all of the activities which need to occur when carrying out an ERP project implementation. Therefore, key aim of this report is to take a closer look at the factors which play a pivotal role in determining the success and failure of ERP system implementation. Through this research, this report aims to establish a framework consisting of best practices and critical success factors, which will then be used in the development of an artifact which aids management, by giving a current ‘snapshot’ of the state of any projects they are currently implementing & integrating.
