Abstract

History and medicine is the central subject of this editorial, underlining the related values, also outlining the main aims of a medical periodical, being instructive and interesting. Taking into account that medical people are much occupied, very often this implies that unfortunately they do not find the time to look at the past and to make their discoveries available to their colleagues. Praise follows for Maltese medical historians, namely Dr. Paul Cassar and Prof. Ethelwald Vella. The “Medical News” section provides information regarding outstanding lectures given by physicians, attainments and new positions. Furthermore, a publications list focuses on the recent publications of Dr. Paul Cassar. An obituary section focuses on Dr. Thomas Agius Ferrante, a well deserved eulogy about his long career in pediatrics at St. Luke`s Hospital Malta, who was instrumental in opening Child Health Clinics in various districts of the Maltese Islands. Of interest are also several advertisements promoting the names of particular pharmaceuticals at that time.
