Abstract: The Great Siege of Malta of 1565 is considered to be a fundamental part of Maltese history. Among the years artists such as Matteo Perez D’Aleccio, Giuseppi Cali and others have given their own perspective, which in many cases were fact driven. Throughout this project, research was carried out in pursuance of understanding the mediums of sequential art and 2.5D animation, the story in itself, as well as a brief understanding of fact versus fiction. In the meantime, attempts at changing and exaggerating this story have been done in order (i) to make the siege more visually entertaining (ii) to present a Maltese epic, (iii) and a fantastic battle. Furthermore, a new contemporary style was bestowed, while also emitting a cinematic atmosphere through the mediums of sequential art and 2.5D animation. This was done in order for the benefit for these historical facts to be transformed into something completely different. This research might allow other artists, film makers and authors to move beyond traditional methods of story telling and instil artistic liberties to move beyond fact driven retelling of historical stories.
