Abstract: The world’s cultural heritage is frequently subject to misuse and vandalism by the general public. However, while a lack of knowledge, unawareness of the heritage values and the importance of its preservation are demonstrated in the real “tangible world” of historic monuments and sites, the general public, and especially youth, have proved to be sophisticated visitors to “intangible” virtual reality. The Euromed Heritage 4 Project “ELAICH” (Educational Linkage Approach In Cultural Heritage) provided an e-tool for increasing “awareness of the importance of Cultural Heritage ... and its conservation by ... the general public” - the eLAICH Educational Toolkit, which was developed and made accessible to the general public through the eLAICH e-learning platform, using Learning Management System (LMS), Content Management System (CMS) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This paper provides an overview of the project’s organization, computerized support, and e-results.
Description: The ELAICH Project received funding from the European Union in the framework of EuroMed Heritage 4 Programme under ELAICH grant agreement n° ENPI-2008/150-583. The authors of the paper would like to thank all members of the ELAICH Consortium, and in particular Prof. Rene Van Grieken – Univ. of Antwerp, Prof. Guido Biscontin – Univ. Ca Foscari of Venice, Prof. Maria del Pilar Ortiz Calderon – Univ. Pablo de Olavide, assisted by their Research Teams, for their contribution to the project.
