The realities, needs and challenges of regulating pensions in Malta

Abstract

This study attempts to analyse the realities, needs and challenges of pensions regulating in Malta, focusing on the Retirement Pensions Act and Pension Rules which came into force on 1st January 2015 by means of LN 4 of 2015. It analyses the various challenges the retirement market is facing and also refers to the sector as an evolving one with huge potentials. A main focus is on how retirement scheme / fund administrators, investment managers, custodians, investment advisors, back office administrators, introducers and auditors will be affected by the new legislation, and what will be their responsibilities and their prospects into the future.
