Abstract: The Electronic Control Unit program is synthesised onto a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and is used to control both the drivers of the Main Driving Motor in the vehicle and also the Stepper Motor responsible for the gear shifting of a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT). The system is able to drive the Main Driving Motor at its optimum speed obtaining maximum efficiency at all times irrespective of the vehicle's speed and the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) being fed. The system is also capable of achieving Regenerative Braking without using a DC-DC Converter. The inputs to the ECU are two pedals; the Accelerator Pedal and the Brake Pedal, along with the Hall Sensor feedback from the Main Driving Motor.
