Based on Kemmerer's work on teacher incentives. this study examines the availability of incentives for teachers in the Middle East and North Africa region. The research results reported in this article indicate that school facilities and classrooms are in poor conditions in some of the surveyed countries, and particularly so in rural 'areas,' classes were also found to be crowded. In addition, evaluation or supervision of instruction is almost non-existent, while in-service training was found to be ineffective. In the light of this assessment, implications are drawn to considerably reduce class sizes as well as implement instructional supervision or assessment and increase school equipment and supplies. Additional avenues for improving teacher incentives are considered and several recommendations for change are made.en_GB
