Data logging offers the opportunity to carry out a variety of experiments in a simple manner, while being easy to use due to its user friendly interface. In this study, I designed lesson plans that include the use of data loggers in the teaching of the topic of ‘Motion’. Four research questions were asked, the first one being: What were the views of teachers and students regarding the use of data loggers in Physics teaching at the secondary level? The second was: What are the factors that influence the students’ understanding of Physics knowledge when using data loggers? The next question was: What is the role of the teacher when using the data loggers? The final question was: What can be done in order to facilitate the use of data loggers in the Maltese Physics lessons? In order to provide feedback for these questions, lessons were conducted in four Form Four classes in four different state schools. In this field work, the feedback was generated through observations and recordings of the lessons, interviews with participating teachers and four focus groups of students. Results indicate that the students’ view the use of data logging in the lessons as motivating, while teachers have a positive attitude towards data loggers and their usefulness in the classroom. Finally, this study indicates that the use of data loggers in the Maltese classrooms can be encouraged by providing better technical support and more resources to the teachers.en_GB
