Abstract: | Both Conrad and Stein, the character he created in Lord Jim, agree that the "romantic feeling of reality" can be both "very good" and "very bad". This double perspective, of the "curse" and "the blessing" of romance in human life, together with the tragic dilemma it involves for Jim and perhaps for all men, underlie the major themes and concerns in Lord Jim. |
