Abstract: On April 10, 1998, after thirty years of bloody conflict, political parties from all sides of the Northern Ireland conflict signed the Good Friday Agreement , pledging to dedicate themselves to ‘…the achievement of reconciliation, tolerance, and mutual trust, and to the protection and vindication of the human rights of all.’ The peace agreement placed at its core an agenda of human rights including a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland, a Human Rights Commission and the reform of policing and justice procedures and provision.
