Abstract: In recent years internationally acclaimed veteran sculptor, Ġanni Bonnici has been working on a memorial to commemorate those Australian and New Zealand troops who fell at Gallipoli during World War I and the battles of World War II. Bonnici, who is well known for his large scale monuments found in many localities on the islands, won the competition from five other entries and was awarded the commission. The statue was installed at Argotti Gardens and was unveiled in a ceremony on Saturday 25 May 2013 in the presence of the Hon. Dr. George Vella, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nicholas Bonnello OAM, Chairman of the ANZAC memorial Committee, H.E. Jane Lambert, Australian High Commissioner and the Honorary Consul for New Zealand, Ms. Jill Camilleri, who delivered their messages for the occasion.
