Abstract: In this article, the author discusses the history of olives and olive oil in the Mediterranean throughout history. He puts on special emphasis on the white olive of Malta, which was highly prized by the Knights of St. John and the aristocracy. This native variety of the white olive had with time all but disappeared. It is now making a comeback thanks to the efforts of a local man, Sam Cremona.
