dc.description.abstract | Information on genetic defects constitutes knowledge of a very intimate nature and can change a person’s life radically. Knowledge of one’s own genetic defects can be a source of great anxiety even if this information is kept secret. When the confidentiality of this information is broken the person is often placed in a very vulnerable position and his/her basic rights are threatened. Very serious harm can be done to the person involved. On the other hand, genetic information pertaining to one person can have serious implications for others’ welfare including spouses, children, and extended family members. How ought a genetic researcher/doctor deal with the information of genetic defects of his/her patients? | en_GB |
