Abstract: Knowing the key performance indicators for job roles is a critical function of an organisation. In this study the researcher sought to identify the key performance indicators for the Air Malta pilot. The researcher opted to do this in two steps. Firstly by using the repertory grid analysis with a sample of Air Malta line pilots. Then by verifying the results obtained from the initial stage through a questionnaire, submitted to all pilots making up the Air Malta training team. After a frequency count and content analysis, the first phase resulted in a set of behavioural competencies, which were then rated by the Air Malta training team. The result was a set of 13 behavioural performance indicators. The researcher then compiled a series of related recommendations, which would assist Air Malta in bringing together a performance appraisal tool, which is relevant and suitable for its pilot community.
