Abstract: This dissertation is intended to analyse foreign and local contemporary art in relation to the local artistic education. My aim is also to investigate whether artistic knowledge delivered to local secondary art students includes some form of historical background with reference to contemporary art, especially local manifestations. Comparisons related to this issue are made within different schools, which comprise both State and Non-state schools. This research is carried out through the use of interviews with sixteen art teachers in order to evaluate both the quality of the artistic historical knowledge delivered in schools, and even the teachers' view in relation to the significance of contemporary art and its value in the artistic educational process. This thesis illustrates that several art teachers tend to depict past modern notion as contemporary art practices.
