Exploring the success strategies of five local freight forwarding companies : a comparative approach

Abstract

This research has been inspired by a personal experience. The change of work industry from freight forwarding to that of manufacturing has triggered the urge to explore the strategies local that freight forwarders are putting in practice in pursuit of success. Their core objective is to achieve total customer satisfaction. In today’s competitive freight forwarding market customers expect to grasp a highly specialised service from freight forwarders. While customer create demand for freight forwarding, human resources is the bloodstream of all the operations of the service providers. Furthermore, modern forms of technology eases all the procedures required to deliver a service and regulations are put in practice to harmonise the sector. There are various companies registered as freight forwarders in the local scene. This research is based on five of the better known local freight forwarding companies. Qualitative research methods were used to explore the main research question and interviews were conducted with high ranking officials of the five selected companies. The title of the research ‘Exploring the Success Strategies of Five Local Freight Forwarding Companies -A comparative approach’ led the researcher to analyse the strategies of the five companies. Quality of service, Human Resources, Communication and Technology and Legislative regulations are the principle factors that contribute to their success. The research confirms that the five companies are practising common strategies that they administer similarly. This shows that they are alert and proactive in the market in their pursuit to remaining competitive and sustain their own growth.
