Abstract: For centuries, agriculture has been one of the most important economic activities of the island. Its sustainability adds to the uniqueness of Gozo's identity and has its direct effect on the employment and agritourism sector. Sustaining this sector is of vital importance for the presentation of the rural character of the countryside. Agriculture in Gozo provides a number of value-added food products, based on traditional techniques and practices. However this strategy is also intended to address improper agricultural practices, including lack of integrated pest management, disposal of waste and uncontrolled use of fertilisers, which do not blend well with the eco-Gozo concept.
