Bahrija covers a land surface area of around four and a half square kilometres and is a region of diverse geology and landscapes. Gadgue, rocky steppe, maquis, clay slope outcrops and cliffs all intertwine to form an area of great natural significance and scenic beauty. AU rock layers constituting the basic Maltese geological stratigraphy are represented in the region , and the Upper Coralline plateaux of the Tal-Pitkal Member type, are deeply scarred by the river valleys of Wied Rini, Wied tal-Marea,! Ta' Wied iZ-Zebbug and Wied Geriuma. The topography of the area was also shaped by considerable land faulting.en_GB
