Abstract: | Female representation in animation is something that is still in progression. This research analyses various female characters in animated movies and delves into the film theories where investigations on how the female is always secondary to the man and the stereotypical appearance of a woman are explored. (Sampson, 2015). This investigation made space for the creation that aims to explore the diversity within oneself which make a person unique through the inclusive characters designed. These characteristics are then transformed into superhero characters. These characters will be challenging the models of female characters in animated movies, such as the female as the ‘damsel in distress’ and the ubiquity of the hourglass figure. Issues of diversity, change, and self-depiction would be addressed and provided a solution through a 2.5D animation Through the qualitative data gathered from the focus group, a more solid idea of the work emerged through the storyboard. Where five characters leading their own path meet and discover that they are part of something bigger. |
