Abstract: | The astonishing and troubling appeal of Nobel Laureate HJ. Muller to human geneticists, convened at the Third International Congress of Human Genetics in Chicago in 1966, to engage in a strong "offensive for the control of human evolution" was founded upon the premise that "modem culture by maximal saving of lives and fertility, unaccompanied by a conscious planning which takes the genetic effects of this policy into account, must protect mutations detrimental to bodily vigor, intelligence or social predisposition". |
