Issue Date: 2009
Abstract: Students' self- evaluation is a key feature of the performance assessment movement and a skill that traditionally all educators try to teach their students. Art educators need to involve students in the drafting of self-assessment strategies, with the possible exception of those that address complex cognitive processes. My aim in this dissertation is to research art students self-evaluate/assess their works in secondary schools as a means of one's expression and criticism. I carried out my research on how children differ from each other in their self-evaluation. I carried out my analyses in girls' secondary schools and also in boys' secondary schools to see the different approaches children have regarding their self-evaluation. I analysed also why it is important that students learn to self-evaluate in art education and what are the various ways of doing so.
